Our Philosophy
Our investment approach and service is centred around four key principles:
-
Alignment of Interest
We tell clients what we are doing with our own money and will generally only recommend investments that we have invested in or are considering investing in ourselves. We will also be significant investors in the SilverEdge European Fund.
-
Preservation of Capital
SilverEdge places a high priority on preservation of capital when it comes to our own investments although of course one must recognise that reward does not come without taking risk. Depending on a client’s stated objectives we apply an appropriate degree of risk weighting in determining investment suitability.
-
Diversification with a Preference for Liquid Investments
We believe that diversification is an essential attribute of any portfolio. We have a strong preference for executing investment ideas via listed markets over non-quoted investment instruments given the liquidity, diversity of opportunities, transparency, regulatory oversight and importantly the value and lower transaction costs which are available from this channel. The listed property sector is a good example where one can access a diverse mix of high quality property assets with very strong management on a cost effective basis which in turn can be disposed of at a moment’s notice unlike traditional property investing. Of course, the downside of listed investments is exposure to the day-to-day volatility of markets which can often be uncomfortable for many investors but we bring our experience to clients when dealing with such concerns.
-
Comprehensive and High Quality Reporting
We believe that reports provided by traditional investment managers are often inadequate and of a generic nature that may not fully meet a client’s needs. We generate our own tailored and consolidated reporting for clients, focusing on underlying exposures by business sectors as well as comprehensive analysis on performance, dividends/coupons, and reconciliations to broker accounts.
